This article covers the top 5 things you should learn in your first month starting as a PPC manager from the personal experiences of someone who has never worked in a marketing role before. These are the collective tips that I’ve found most beneficial for anyone else looking to join the marketing world.
Having done my bachelor’s degree in business, majoring in International Business and Management, and completing my master’s in Entrepreneurship, I had only come across a few marketing courses during my educational years- and even then, it was completely different information from what you actually end up doing/using in the marketing world.
Before You Start as a PPC Manager
While I’m not someone who has the most extensive background in PPC (pay-per-click) management, I have come to understand that there are things you should definitely do to help get you started on the right foot in this industry. So, if you want to kick off your career as a PPC Manager, want to do your own online advertising ads, or are just wondering what being a PPC manager is like, check out these two “pre-tips” before getting started.
Firstly, I recommend starting by completing a Google Ads Certifications in Google Ads Search Certification, Google Ads Display Certification, Google Ads Video Certification, and Shopping Ads Certification. Personally, I think it’s helpful to understand all the “Online Marketing Language”; they have their own jargon, synonyms, and way of talking. If you jump into Google Ads straightaway, you may struggle with what everything means and how everything functions.
Secondly, before you create any ads or campaigns, you need to understand your clients, products, services, promotions, and web pages. Try to mimic their words on the landing page and their slogans, and adapt them into your ads. Once you complete all the certificates, as mentioned above, and you have a better understanding of your clients, it’s time to get into the practical part and actually practice. That’s right, practice it straight away. Why? The best way to learn is by actually doing. These are the 5 things that I suggest learning right away.
1. Get Familiar With Search Ads
In my first week, I created an Ads Promotion for a client- I got so excited when I saw the created promo show up on Google! The easiest ad to start with is Search Ads. You simply need to input keywords, headlines, and descriptions that you think will help people subscribe, sign-up, or buy their product.
It’s important to use keywords that will get people to take the action you want them to take; make it something simple, short, and catchy. I always think that if I’m the one who sees this ad, what am I going to read, click, or pay attention to? Really put yourself into the potential customer’s shoes.
